He was best known for his work in Hindi films from 1977 to 1989 and for his work in television between 1988 and 2002. On February 14, 2018, a mass shooting was committed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida by Nikolas Cruz. Seventeen people were killed and seventeen more were wounded, making it one of the world's deadliest school massacres.
